MY CAREER

DECEMBER 11, 1965 to JANUARY 02, 1990

p01-00.jpg

On December 11, 1965 I started employment as a cadet with the Baltimore County Police Department. I was assigned to the Property room located in Police headquarters on Bosley Avenue. My first supervisor was Dave Kuhn. On December 22, 1965 I received a letter welcoming me to employment with Baltimore County signed by the then county executive, Spiro T. Agnew. I graduated from the Police Academy held at headquarters on June 11, 1966 and was assigned to Shift #2 in Essex. I spent my entire career in the Essex District, working 324 Car for approximately 18 years. I retired from this great organization on January 01, 1990.

From time to time I come upon some really good old pictures from my career. I will post them on this site. I would hope that others who have such pictures could get them to me so I could post them for visitors to my site to enjoy.

In 2007 I received this plaque (Okay I had it made for myself) to commemorate 40 years of service as a Police Officer, 24 great and memorable years with the Baltimore County Police department and 16 not so great or memorable years with the Clark County Park Police. As I update this site in 2011 I am now on year 43.

In 1981 Off. Ola M. Obrigkeit was assigned to shift two in the Essex District. In 1984 I started to date one of the guys on my shift. Luckily the guy was Ola! Had it been one of the other men on the shift it might have upset my parents and children!

In 1989 I decided that the time had come to leave my profession with Baltimore County. Ola and I had married in 1988. I told her that I was going to retire and move to Las Vegas. She resigned from the department. To this day she regrets it as she says it was the best job she ever had. My retirement took effect January 02, 1990. On January and on January 08, 1990 we Ola and I and two cats crossed the top of Hoover Dam in our moving van as the radio played “Viva Las Vegas” sung by Elvis, it was his birthday.) We moved here to Las Vegas and I again took a “job” in Law Enforcement. To me, Baltimore County was a profession, and after I had the best anything else is just a “job”. Ola worked for the airlines for a few years and now has a full time job of trying to keep the house clean behind me. Lt. Joe Kane put together a great retirement party for Ola and me.

On May 21, 1988 Ola and I were married by Reverend James Lane, Baltimore County Police Chaplain, at his church, Trinity Temple in Essex. Our family and shift two joined us in celebrating.

Joe and I grew up together in the Rosedale area of Baltimore County. I should correct that, he grew up and I just progressed in age. However we did our thing together. Joe told us that a limo would pick us up on the evening of our party. It did, old wagon #309! Ola and I were chauffeured to the hall on Riverside Road by Off. Joe Albright. As we approached the vocational school on Mace Avenue approximately six marked Police Cars fell in front and behind us. As we approached the V.F.W. Hall the lights and sirens went on all units. The neighbors all were out in force to see what was going on. Out stepped Ola and I from the back of the Wagon. Something I will never forget. All at the party had a good time
